Garth Fountain-Smith LLB, GradCertLegPrac, GradDipACG, FGIA, FCIS, MAICD is a corporate lawyer nearing 20 years’ standing. Garth’s in-depth experience includes having appeared as advocate in commercial, regulatory matters and criminal matters, advising on corporations law, directors’ duties, regulatory and enforcement law across business and financial services sectors, professional conduct matters and boards on governance, strategy and risk.

Garth also has extensive senior regulatory and compliance experience as a lawyer and manager in ASIC’s Law Enforcement and Operations directorates. He is also Principal Advisor, Victoria, at Effective Governance, advising on board evaluation, director skills competency assessment, board and corporate governance.

He is Director and Fellow of Governance Institute of Australia; Deputy Chair of Victoria Council, Chairman of its Corporate Law Issues Committee, 2014–2016 and member since 2010.

Garth was also Chairman and non-executive director of National Confectionery Wholesalers Ltd, 2008–2013 in combination of appointment. He lectures for Governance Institute in its certificated courses and a module in its Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance. He has co-authored numerous good governance guides, contributed to publications and the journal for Governance Institute of Australia. Executive management experience as director, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel in the Information Technology sector. Former journalist in Radio and Television.
