State Member for Prospect
Dr Hugh McDermott MP is the State Member for Prospect. Prior to entering Parliament, Hugh was a barrister and university lecturer specialising in AML-CTF, financial crime and corruption.
In 2015 he was appointed to The Joint Parliamentary Committee with oversight of the NSW Ombudsman (including the Child Death Review Team), Police Integrity Commission, NSW Crime Commission, Information Commissioner, Privacy Commissioner, Inspector of the Police Integrity Commission, Inspector of the Crime Commission and Inspector of Custodial Services.
From 2010–2015, Dr McDermott was a practising Barrister-at-Law and the Director of Financial Crime Programs at the Australian Graduate School of Policing & Security, Charles Sturt University. He held the position of Senior Manager – Major Fraud and International Enforcement with ASIC, Sydney, in 2009 and was a Litigation Attorney based in the Cayman Islands from 2006–2008. From 2002–2006 he was the International Adviser (Asia/Pacific) to The Law Society of England and Law, London.
Dr McDermott holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master in Laws from The University of Sydney. He was awarded a PhD in Laws from King's College London, The University of London, in 2008. Dr McDermott has published a number of texts on financial crime, money laundering and corruption.
